VERSION 3 OPTIONS
The following options are specific to version 3.
ACTIVE VIEWS
Select which views you want to be active when the program runs an Edit Session. Each view is accessible by a tab on the left-side of the page.
At present, the MARC view must always be selected (thus, it is grayed out). All other views are optional.
NOTE: In the current version, the edit session must be closed and re-opened in order for changes to this option to take effect.
CAPTIONS FILE
Select the file that you want to use for generating captions in the 'Meta' view of MARC Report. The default value for this option is: biblabels.txt (located in your My Documents\MarcReport\Templates folder)
'SELECT MARC' OPENS FILE IN …
This option allows you to set the mode the program should open a file in whenever you select a file using the 'File|Select MARC' or 'File|Re-open' menu.
If this option is set to a non-default value (such as 'Edit Session'), then selecting a MARC file from the File menu (either with 'Select MARC File' or 'Re-open') will open the selected file in the specified mode.
The default behavior in MARC Report has always been to first select the file that you want to work with, and then to select what you want to do with the file. The 'SELECT MARC' option reduces these two steps to one for those users who are primarily using the program in a single mode.
For example, if your primary use of the program is to validate and edit records, then you might set this option to 'Edit session'. Then, whenever you select a file using the File menu, the program will attempt to start an Edit Session with this file.
On the other hand, if you are using the program in a variety of modes, it might be best not to use this option, as it could become an annoyance.
This option is similar to the 'PROGRAM START-UP MODE' option (on the Porgram Automation page of the options), which determines what the program should do when you double-click on a recognizable file in Windows.
To compensate for this potential annoyance-factor, two changes were made to the Utilities menu. First, an option has been added to the very top of this menu to select a MARC File. This makes it possible to use the 'File' menu to quickly open files in the editor, yet still be free to open files in the Utilties without having to turn off the 'SELECT MARC' option . Second, if the 'SELECT MARC' option is checked, and Batch mode is not set as the start-up mode, an option to run the program in 'Batch mode' will be added to the top of the Utilities menu (since, as 'Batch mode' is located on the 'File' menu, one would otherwise be locked out of using Batch mode).
Note: Selecting a mode from the dropdown list has no effect unless the checkbox above it is also selected.
