Title Proper
- Scope 2.3.2.1
-
- if taking a title proper from OSoI (because no title is provided within the resource itself), then enter the Title Proper without square brackets and add a Title Source note to explain the source
MARC-Bib: 245anp; 245c (Title)
Editing
- Check the 'Source' instruction to be sure that you are looking at the correct source(s) of information on the resource
- If data on the resource and data as the element in the record are:
- PoR/PaE–check the Data Entry instructions:
- data for this element must be Transcribed, but 1.7: make sure the data matches word-for-word and letter-for-letter (except exceptions), e.g., fix common exceptions
- PoR/AaE–check the Core instructions:
- data for this element is Core:
- if the data has been given as a wrong element, move it to the correct element
- if the data is completely missing, add the data for this element
- AoR/PaE–check the Source instructions again:
- since this type of data is supposed to come from a specified source, or sources, on the resource itself (see the Source instructions above), if you cannot find the data on one of those sources, either delete the data or move it to another element, e.g., an appropriate note
- AoR/AaE–go to the next element:
- but be sure to check the resource carefully, if the data for the element is Core, or if the data is important for differentiating the resource from a similar resource
- Check below, for any useful Notes
Editing Notes:
- watch out for data entered as a common title proper (in $a) that should be entered as a Title Proper of Series instead (the LC/NACO Authority File can help with this decision)
MARC:
- check the correct ISBD separating punctuation:
- for a numbered part: 245–before $n (. )
- for a named part: 245–before $p (. or , )
- for a subsequent Title Proper: 245–before $b and in $b ( ; )
- for a subsequent Title Proper: 245–in $c (. )
