MARC Report 240: Program changes

MARC Report

• It is now possible to customize the font used for the Brief Messages, and for the Notes. Simply click on the label for either one, and a Font dialog will pop-up. Any changes you make are 'sticky' and will persist the next time the program is run.

• An option has been added that will display the title of the record (or as much as will fit) in the title bar of the Edit Session window. This option is enabled by default; to turn it off, go to the 'Record display' page of the options.

• Some of the function keys have been changed for Edit Sessions. <F5> will insert the copyright symbol at the cursor position. This page contains a list of all special key assignments; in the program, press <Ctrl><Alt>K to view this list. Version 240 also addresses potential conflicts between macro key assignments and function keys defined by the program.

• A number of small changes, hopefully all good ones, have been made to the functionality of Filters in an Edit Session. Details here.

• In MARC Report, the menu option 'Exit (No Save)' now copies the behavior of closing a session by clicking the [x] in the top right corner (to wit, if any changes were made, the Session results dialog will be run–despite the caption saying 'No Save').

• If the long Note for an error message includes a URL, double-clicking on the note will now open your default browser on the url. We will try to highlight these links (to make this more obvious) in a future version.

• More changes have been made to the default 'Mandatory Fields' table, the following items have all been disabled (they are no longer considered Mandatory): Tag 260, for Serials; 300 subfield $c (also Serials); and 546 subfield $a (all Bib formats); in addition, we have added an exception which will now remove the 'Mandatory' message that arose when 300 $c was missing in an electronic resource.

• Version 240 adds a cataloging check that will alert the user whenever 040 $b is present and not 'eng'. This check should be turned off if your language of cataloging is not English. The steps to do this are here.

• A new cataloging check has been added to check for errant dollar signs in our records¹⁾. The '$' is often used to represent the MARC Subfield delimiter in the text data entry of MARC records. This check may have a fairly high noise level, especially in the 245.

• Beginning with this version we have exposed the MessageId field of all catcheck messages. This might be of interest to those who customize these messages; click here for more information.

• Beginning with this version, the program will, by default, allow only one instance of itself to run. However, it is relatively easy to override this limitation. Here's how to do it ...

• A new option that suppresses the 'Record Added' pop-up that appears when a record is imported using an automation method ²⁾ has been added to the 'Program Automation' page of the options.

Utilties

• In MARC Global, an option was added to the 'Load' page for Auto Reviews so that the user may customize the number of columns that display.
• Several performance statistics were added to MARC Analysis (similar to what we have in MARC Verify, such as number of records processed per second, etc.)
